Screen/SceneGlow Privacy Policy

Effective date: 8th August 2026

1. About this policy

This privacy policy explains how the SceneGlow Android TV application accesses, processes, stores and transmits information.

SceneGlow is provided by:

AIGENUITY LTD
Company number: 16506716
Registered office: 14 Museum Place, 4th Floor, Cardiff, United Kingdom, CF10 3BH
Email: aigenuityltduk@gmail.com

AIGENUITY LTD is the data controller for personal data that it receives in connection with SceneGlow. This may include information contained in customer-support enquiries and, where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement, limited application analytics and referral-attribution information as described in this policy.

2. What SceneGlow does

SceneGlow is an Android TV application that creates screen-reactive ambient lighting using compatible lighting systems.

SceneGlow may control:

  • WLED-compatible devices and addressable LED strips;
  • colour-capable lights exposed through a user’s Home Assistant installation; and
  • other supported local lighting devices added in future versions.

SceneGlow analyses colours displayed on the television screen and calculates lighting instructions based on those colours.

Depending on the user’s configuration, those instructions may be sent to:

  • one or more WLED devices;
  • the user’s Home Assistant installation; or
  • both WLED and Home Assistant devices.

SceneGlow is designed to perform screen analysis locally on the Android TV device.

AIGENUITY LTD does not operate a cloud service that receives or analyses the user’s screen content.

3. Screen-capture processing

SceneGlow uses Android’s screen-capture functionality after the user grants permission through the Android system prompt.

Screen capture is used to:

  • analyse colours in selected areas of the displayed image;
  • calculate representative lighting colours;
  • map those colours to configured lighting zones; and
  • generate lighting instructions for configured WLED and Home Assistant lighting devices.

Screen images are processed temporarily and locally on the Android TV device.

SceneGlow does not:

  • transmit screen images or video to AIGENUITY LTD;
  • transmit screen images or video to an AIGENUITY LTD server;
  • record or permanently store screen video;
  • upload screenshots;
  • collect audio from viewed content;
  • create a history of films, programmes, applications or games viewed;
  • use screen content for advertising or profiling; or
  • use screen content for AIGENUITY LTD analytics.

Captured frames are used only for immediate colour calculation and are discarded after processing.

The resulting calculated colour values may be sent to the user’s configured lighting devices or Home Assistant installation. These calculated values do not contain a copy of the original screen image.

Some protected video services and applications may prevent Android screen capture. This may prevent SceneGlow from detecting colours from that content. It does not cause protected content to be sent elsewhere.

4. WLED communication

SceneGlow may send calculated colour and lighting-control information to one or more WLED devices selected by the user.

Communication normally takes place over the user’s local network using WLED-compatible protocols, which may include DDP, UDP, HTTP or other supported control interfaces.

Information sent to a WLED device may include:

  • calculated LED colour values;
  • brightness information;
  • LED positions or sequence information;
  • lighting-zone mappings;
  • frame or update timing; and
  • basic control instructions.

SceneGlow does not send screen images, video or audio to WLED devices.

WLED communication does not normally pass through servers operated by AIGENUITY LTD.

Some WLED communication protocols do not provide network-level encryption. Users should operate SceneGlow and WLED only on a trusted and appropriately secured network.

5. Home Assistant communication

SceneGlow may connect to a Home Assistant installation configured by the user.

The user may be asked to provide or authorise:

  • the network address or URL of the Home Assistant installation;
  • an authentication or access token;
  • the Home Assistant light entities that SceneGlow may control; and
  • lighting-zone and behaviour settings for those entities.

SceneGlow may use the Home Assistant API or another supported Home Assistant interface to:

  • verify the connection;
  • authenticate the user’s configured integration;
  • retrieve available or selected lighting entities;
  • read relevant capabilities of selected entities;
  • determine whether selected lights are available;
  • send colour, brightness, power or transition commands; and
  • restore or update lights as directed by the user.

Depending on the implementation and options selected by the user, information received from Home Assistant may include:

  • entity identifiers;
  • entity names or friendly names;
  • supported colour modes;
  • brightness and colour capabilities;
  • availability information;
  • current power, brightness or colour state;
  • room, area or device associations where exposed by Home Assistant; and
  • error or connection-status information.

SceneGlow should access only the Home Assistant information reasonably required to configure and control the selected lighting entities.

SceneGlow does not require access to unrelated Home Assistant information such as cameras, microphones, alarm systems, door locks, presence sensors or household activity unless a future feature explicitly requires such access and the user chooses to enable it.

SceneGlow does not intentionally collect or send Home Assistant history, automation history, location information, camera images, voice recordings or household occupancy information to AIGENUITY LTD.

6. Home Assistant authentication credentials

Home Assistant access credentials may provide control over devices connected to the user’s Home Assistant installation.

Where SceneGlow stores a Home Assistant access token or similar credential, it is stored locally on the Android TV device and used only to authenticate communication with the user’s Home Assistant installation.

AIGENUITY LTD does not receive the user’s Home Assistant password, access token or authentication credential unless the user deliberately includes it in a support request.

Users must not send passwords or access tokens to AIGENUITY LTD.

Users should:

  • create credentials only for their own SceneGlow installation;
  • grant only the level of access reasonably required;
  • revoke credentials that are no longer used;
  • secure their Android TV device and Home Assistant installation;
  • avoid sharing credentials with other people; and
  • remove or revoke the SceneGlow credential before transferring or disposing of the Android TV device.

Clearing SceneGlow’s application data or uninstalling SceneGlow removes locally stored credentials from the Android TV device. Users may also need to revoke the credential separately through Home Assistant.

7. Local and remote Home Assistant connections

Home Assistant commonly operates on the user’s own hardware and local network. Where SceneGlow connects using a local network address, communication normally remains between the Android TV device and the user’s Home Assistant installation.

Users may instead configure SceneGlow with:

  • a Home Assistant Cloud remote-access address;
  • a personal domain name;
  • a reverse proxy;
  • a VPN-accessible address; or
  • another externally accessible Home Assistant URL.

Where the user selects a remote address, SceneGlow’s communications may travel over the internet and may pass through infrastructure operated by the user’s chosen remote-access, hosting, DNS, VPN, proxy or cloud provider.

AIGENUITY LTD does not control those third-party services.

Users are responsible for ensuring that any remotely accessible Home Assistant installation is configured securely and uses appropriate encryption.

SceneGlow does not independently enable remote access to Home Assistant or open network ports on the user’s router.

8. Information stored locally

SceneGlow may store the following information locally on the Android TV device:

WLED configuration

  • local IP addresses or hostnames of configured WLED devices;
  • device names;
  • numbers and arrangements of LEDs;
  • strip orientation and starting position;
  • WLED output or segment mappings; and
  • connection and protocol settings.

Home Assistant configuration

  • the configured Home Assistant address or URL;
  • a Home Assistant access token or other authentication credential;
  • selected entity identifiers;
  • entity display names;
  • lighting-zone assignments;
  • supported colour or brightness capabilities;
  • configuration and connection status; and
  • preferences relating to the restoration of previous light states.

General SceneGlow configuration

  • brightness and colour settings;
  • smoothing and transition settings;
  • screen-sampling zones;
  • edge-depth settings;
  • capture-resolution preferences;
  • setup and calibration status;
  • application-state information; and
  • other preferences required to operate the application.

This information is used to remember the user’s configuration and operate the lighting system.

Privacy and referral preferences

SceneGlow may also store limited privacy and referral information locally on the Android TV device, including:

  • the user’s analytics and referral-measurement preference;
  • a referral or campaign identifier received through Google Play;
  • information indicating whether referral attribution has already been processed;
  • limited timestamps or status information required to prevent duplicate referral events; and
  • other local state required to respect the user’s privacy choices.

This information is used to remember the user’s privacy preference, process referral attribution correctly and avoid reporting the same referral repeatedly.

AIGENUITY LTD does not receive locally stored WLED configuration, Home Assistant configuration, authentication credentials or other SceneGlow operating settings unless the user deliberately includes them in a technical-support request.

Where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement, limited analytics and referral information described in Section 11 may be transmitted to Google Analytics for Firebase. This does not include screen content, WLED configuration, Home Assistant credentials or Home Assistant entity configuration.

Local information can be deleted by:

  • removing an integration or device through SceneGlow;
  • resetting SceneGlow from within the application, where that option is available;
  • clearing SceneGlow’s application storage through Android settings; or
  • uninstalling SceneGlow.

Removing SceneGlow does not automatically delete information independently retained by WLED, Home Assistant or third-party remote-access providers.

9. Lighting commands and smart-home information

SceneGlow generates real-time lighting commands from screen colours.

These commands may reveal limited contextual information, such as the approximate colours being displayed at a particular moment. However, they do not contain the original image or a playable copy of the viewed content.

SceneGlow does not send calculated lighting commands, Home Assistant entity information or WLED lighting information to AIGENUITY LTD.

AIGENUITY LTD does not use lighting commands to determine what a user is watching.

Home Assistant may record entity-state changes, events, service calls or logs according to the user’s own Home Assistant configuration. This processing occurs within the user’s Home Assistant environment or its configured services and is not controlled by SceneGlow or AIGENUITY LTD.

Users can manage Home Assistant logging, history and retention through their own Home Assistant configuration.

10. Accounts

SceneGlow does not require users to create an AIGENUITY LTD or SceneGlow account.

AIGENUITY LTD does not maintain a SceneGlow user-account database.

A user’s Home Assistant account is separate from SceneGlow and is administered by the user through their own Home Assistant installation or chosen Home Assistant service.

AIGENUITY LTD does not create, manage or delete Home Assistant accounts.

Because SceneGlow does not create an online SceneGlow account, there is no separate online SceneGlow account that needs to be deleted.

11. Analytics and referral attribution

SceneGlow may use Google Analytics for Firebase and the Google Play Install Referrer service to understand how the application was discovered, installed and used.

This information may be used to:

  • determine whether an installation resulted from a particular website, creator, campaign, referral link or QR code;
  • measure the effectiveness of promotional activity;
  • understand basic application usage and installation statistics; and
  • improve SceneGlow.

Referral information may include a campaign or referral identifier, such as the name or code assigned to a particular promotional source, together with information supplied by Google Play about the referral and installation.

Google Analytics for Firebase may also process technical information such as an application-instance identifier, application version, device model, operating-system version, approximate geographic information, first-launch and application-usage events.

SceneGlow does not use this analytics information to collect or analyse screen content, determine what the user is watching, collect Home Assistant credentials, collect WLED configuration, or build behavioural advertising profiles.

AIGENUITY LTD does not sell analytics or referral information.

Analytics and referral attribution are optional. Where required, SceneGlow will request the user's permission before enabling this processing. Refusing or later disabling analytics does not prevent the core SceneGlow lighting functionality from operating.

SceneGlow may associate an installation with a referral identifier for the purpose of measuring the effectiveness of that referral. This identifies the source of the installation; it is not intended to identify the purchaser by name.

Analytics information is processed using services provided by Google. Google may process this information in accordance with its applicable terms and privacy documentation.

12. Diagnostic information

SceneGlow may generate local technical information needed to operate or troubleshoot the application.

Such information remains on the Android TV device unless the user deliberately sends it to AIGENUITY LTD when requesting support.

Information voluntarily supplied for support may include:

  • the user’s name and email address;
  • the support message;
  • Android TV device model;
  • Android version;
  • SceneGlow version;
  • WLED version;
  • Home Assistant version;
  • relevant light or entity identifiers;
  • application settings;
  • network configuration details;
  • connection and authentication errors;
  • error information;
  • diagnostic logs; and
  • screenshots selected by the user.

Users should remove or obscure:

  • passwords;
  • access tokens;
  • API keys;
  • externally accessible URLs containing credentials;
  • private domain names where disclosure is not necessary;
  • unrelated entity names;
  • household names;
  • location information; and
  • other unrelated personal information.

AIGENUITY LTD will not ask users to send their Home Assistant password or full access token through an ordinary support request.

13. Google Play

SceneGlow is distributed through Google Play.

Google may independently process information relating to:

  • Google Play accounts;
  • app downloads and installation;
  • purchases and licence verification;
  • device compatibility;
  • app updates;
  • store interactions;
  • security; and
  • platform performance.

Where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement, SceneGlow may also use the Google Play Install Referrer service to receive limited information about how the application was discovered or installed.

This information may include:

  • a referral or campaign identifier;
  • referral-source information;
  • campaign parameters associated with a promotional link;
  • the time at which a referral link was followed; and
  • the time at which installation began.

SceneGlow uses this information to determine whether an installation resulted from a particular website, creator, referral link, QR code or promotional campaign.  Referral information received through this mechanism does not provide SceneGlow with the purchaser’s Google account credentials, payment-card details or Google Play order number.  Google processes Google Play information under its own terms and privacy policy. AIGENUITY LTD does not control information that Google independently collects through Google Play or the Android operating system.  The presence of Google Play or referral measurement on a device does not mean that SceneGlow transmits screen content, WLED configuration or Home Assistant credentials to Google.

14. Third-party systems and services

SceneGlow interoperates with systems that are not operated by AIGENUITY LTD, including WLED and Home Assistant.

Depending on the user’s setup, it may also communicate through or interact with:

  • WLED;
  • Home Assistant;
  • Nabu Casa services;
  • Google Play;
  • Google Analytics for Firebase;
  • VPN providers;
  • DNS providers;
  • reverse-proxy services;
  • network equipment;
  • smart-light manufacturers; and
  • integrations configured within Home Assistant.

Where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement, Google Analytics for Firebase may process limited application, device, usage and referral information for the purposes described in Section 11.

SceneGlow does not provide Google Analytics for Firebase with screen images, captured video, viewing history, WLED configuration, Home Assistant credentials, Home Assistant entity configuration or calculated lighting frames.

Google and other third-party systems may process information under their own applicable terms and privacy policies.

SceneGlow does not control how Home Assistant, WLED, individual smart-light integrations, Google services or user-selected service providers independently store logs, states, commands or other information.  Users should review the privacy and security settings of the third-party services that they choose to use.

15. Support enquiries

When a user contacts AIGENUITY LTD for help, we process the information the user chooses to provide.

We use this information to:

  • respond to the enquiry;
  • diagnose technical problems;
  • provide customer support;
  • identify defects;
  • improve SceneGlow; and
  • maintain an appropriate record of the support provided.

Our lawful basis is normally:

  • performance of a contract or taking steps requested in connection with a service;
  • our legitimate interests in supporting users and improving SceneGlow; or
  • compliance with a legal obligation where applicable.

We do not use support information for unrelated advertising.

16. Legal and business records

AIGENUITY LTD may process limited information associated with purchases, refunds, disputes or business records where received from Google Play or directly from the user.

This information may be used to:

  • administer purchases or refunds;
  • respond to payment or licence disputes;
  • comply with accounting and tax obligations;
  • prevent fraud or misuse; and
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

The applicable lawful basis may be performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation or AIGENUITY LTD’s legitimate interests.

17. Sharing of personal data

AIGENUITY LTD does not receive or share:

  • screen images;
  • captured video;
  • viewing histories;
  • calculated WLED colour frames;
  • calculated Home Assistant colour commands;
  • WLED connection details stored in SceneGlow;
  • Home Assistant connection details stored in SceneGlow;
  • Home Assistant entity lists;
  • Home Assistant access tokens; or
  • SceneGlow settings stored locally on the device.

Personal data received through support, business communications, analytics or referral measurement may be shared only where reasonably necessary with:

  • email and communication providers; website or cloud-hosting providers;
  • Google, including Google Analytics for Firebase, where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement;
  • Google or another app-store provider in connection with purchases, licence verification, security, application distribution or support;
  • professional advisers;
  • a purchaser or adviser involved in a proposed sale or restructuring of the business; or
  • courts, regulators, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities where required by law.

Where Google Analytics for Firebase is used, only the limited analytics and referral information described in this policy is made available to the service.

SceneGlow does not provide Google Analytics for Firebase with screen content, WLED configuration, Home Assistant credentials, Home Assistant entity information or calculated lighting commands.

AIGENUITY LTD does not sell SceneGlow user data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Service providers acting on behalf of AIGENUITY LTD may use personal data only for the applicable service and must protect it appropriately.

Communications sent by SceneGlow to a user-configured Home Assistant installation, WLED device or remote-access provider are initiated at the user’s direction and are not disclosures by AIGENUITY LTD.

18. International transfers

Some providers used by AIGENUITY LTD for analytics, referral measurement, email, hosting or business administration may process personal data outside the United Kingdom. This may include Google and Google Analytics for Firebase where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement.

Where UK data-protection law restricts a transfer, AIGENUITY LTD will use an appropriate mechanism, such as:

  • UK adequacy regulations;
  • the UK International Data Transfer Agreement;
  • the UK Addendum to the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses;
  • another legally recognised safeguard; or
  • a permitted legal exception.

Screen content and locally stored SceneGlow settings are not transferred internationally by AIGENUITY LTD because AIGENUITY LTD does not receive them.

Where a user configures a remote Home Assistant address or third-party smart-home service, their communications may be processed in another country by the provider they selected. The location and safeguards applicable to that processing are determined by the provider and the user’s configuration, not by AIGENUITY LTD.

19. Data retention

AIGENUITY LTD does not retain:

  • screen-capture frames;
  • screen video;
  • audio from displayed content;
  • viewing histories;
  • calculated WLED colour frames;
  • calculated Home Assistant lighting commands;
  • WLED connection details stored in SceneGlow;
  • Home Assistant URLs stored in SceneGlow;
  • Home Assistant access tokens;
  • Home Assistant entity information stored in SceneGlow; or
  • SceneGlow settings stored locally on the device.

This information is not stored on AIGENUITY LTD servers.

Where the user has enabled analytics and referral measurement, AIGENUITY LTD currently configures Google Analytics for Firebase user-level and event-level data retention to twelve months.

Google Analytics may retain aggregated statistical reports for longer periods because its standard aggregated reporting is not governed by the user-level and event-level retention setting.

Locally stored referral-processing state and privacy preferences may remain on the Android TV device for as long as SceneGlow remains installed or until the user resets or clears the application’s data.

AIGENUITY LTD does not use analytics or referral information to create a viewing history or behavioural advertising profile.

Support enquiries and voluntarily supplied diagnostic information are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • resolve the support request;
  • understand recurring technical issues;
  • maintain appropriate business records; and
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Financial, purchase and legal records may be retained for the period required by applicable law.

Information that has been irreversibly anonymised may be retained for statistical or product-improvement purposes because it no longer identifies an individual.

Home Assistant, WLED or third-party integrations may independently retain logs, history or state information according to the user’s configuration and their own retention practices.

20. User choices and deletion

Users control whether to:

  • enable analytics and referral measurement;
  • later disable analytics and referral measurement through SceneGlow’s privacy settings;
  • grant Android screen-capture permission;
  • connect a WLED device;
  • connect a Home Assistant installation;
  • provide a Home Assistant access credential;
  • select particular Home Assistant entities;
  • use a local or remote Home Assistant address; and
  • start or stop screen-reactive lighting.

Analytics and referral measurement are optional and are not required for SceneGlow’s core screen-reactive lighting functionality.

Where consent is required, SceneGlow does not enable Firebase Analytics collection until the user chooses to allow it.

If analytics and referral measurement are subsequently disabled, SceneGlow will stop sending new analytics and referral events. Disabling future collection does not necessarily remove information that was previously received and retained in accordance with this policy.

Screen capture can be stopped by:

  • stopping SceneGlow’s active capture session;
  • closing or disabling the relevant feature;
  • force-stopping the application; or
  • uninstalling SceneGlow.

Locally stored settings and credentials can be removed by:

  • disconnecting the relevant integration;
  • resetting SceneGlow;
  • clearing the application’s storage; or
  • uninstalling SceneGlow.

Users should separately revoke any SceneGlow access token through Home Assistant when it is no longer required.

Users may also need to delete logs, entity history or credentials separately from Home Assistant, WLED or another service because those systems are not controlled by AIGENUITY LTD.

To request deletion of information previously sent to AIGENUITY LTD through a support enquiry, contact aigenuityltduk@gmail.com.

Deletion requests may be subject to information that AIGENUITY LTD must retain for legal, accounting, security or legal-claims purposes.

21. User rights

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, users may have the right to:

  • request access to personal data held by AIGENUITY LTD;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion;
  • request restriction of processing;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • complain to a data-protection supervisory authority.

These rights apply to personal data received and held by AIGENUITY LTD.

AIGENUITY LTD cannot provide a copy of locally stored SceneGlow settings, captured frames, Home Assistant credentials or Home Assistant entity information that it has never received.

SceneGlow does not require users to identify themselves to use analytics or referral measurement.

Google Analytics for Firebase assigns an app-instance identifier to an individual installation of SceneGlow for analytics purposes. SceneGlow does not associate this identifier with a SceneGlow account, because SceneGlow does not require or provide user accounts.

AIGENUITY LTD does not intentionally associate the app-instance identifier with the user’s name, email address, Google account or advertising identifier.

Because analytics information is intentionally collected without a SceneGlow account or directly identifying user details, AIGENUITY LTD may not always be able to identify a particular analytics record from a person’s name or email address alone. AIGENUITY LTD will not require a person to provide unnecessary additional personal information solely in order to identify them.

Where AIGENUITY LTD can reasonably identify personal data relating to a requester, the applicable data-protection rights described above remain available.

Requests may be sent to aigenuityltduk@gmail.com. We may need to verify the requester’s identity before acting.

22. Complaints

Please contact AIGENUITY LTD first if you have concerns about how your information has been handled.

Users also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the United Kingdom’s data-protection supervisory authority.

Users outside the United Kingdom may also be entitled to contact the relevant authority in their country.

23. Children

SceneGlow is not designed specifically for children and does not require a SceneGlow account or user profile.

Analytics and referral measurement are optional and are not required to use SceneGlow’s core functionality.

AIGENUITY LTD does not use SceneGlow analytics for behavioural advertising, advertising personalisation or the creation of advertising profiles.

Where consent is required and a user is not able to provide valid consent themselves, the appropriate parent or guardian should make the privacy choice on their behalf.

AIGENUITY LTD does not knowingly seek to collect directly identifying personal information from children through SceneGlow.  If a parent or guardian believes that a child has provided personal information to AIGENUITY LTD, they may contact aigenuityltduk@gmail.com.

24. Security

AIGENUITY LTD uses appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data that it receives.

SceneGlow users are responsible for maintaining the security of:

  • their Android TV device;
  • their local network;
  • WLED devices;
  • Home Assistant installation;
  • Home Assistant user accounts;
  • Home Assistant access tokens;
  • remote-access configuration;
  • smart-light devices;
  • WLED credentials, where configured; and
  • other devices connected to the same network.

Users should use encrypted connections when communicating with Home Assistant over the internet and should not expose Home Assistant directly to the internet without appropriate security controls.

No storage or network system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

25. Personal-data breaches

If AIGENUITY LTD experiences a personal-data breach involving information that it holds, it will assess the risk and notify the relevant supervisory authority and affected individuals where required by applicable law.

Because screen content, SceneGlow configuration, WLED information and Home Assistant credentials ordinarily remain under the user’s control, AIGENUITY LTD may not be aware of incidents occurring solely within:

  • the user’s Android TV device;
  • the user’s local network;
  • a WLED device;
  • the user’s Home Assistant installation;
  • a smart-light integration; or
  • a third-party remote-access service.

AIGENUITY LTD cannot notify users about an incident of which it is unaware and for which it is not responsible.

26. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when SceneGlow’s features, integrations, data practices, service providers or legal obligations change.

The updated policy will be published with a revised effective date.

Material changes affecting how SceneGlow accesses or handles personal data will also be communicated through an appropriate method, such as the application, Google Play listing or website.

If SceneGlow later introduces additional cloud processing, user accounts, remote control, cloud storage, crash-reporting services, advertising technologies or other forms of data processing beyond the limited analytics and referral measurement described in this policy, this policy and the applicable Google Play Data Safety declaration will be reviewed and updated accordingly.
