ShieldGlow Privacy Policy

 Effective date: 15 July 2026

1. About this policy

This privacy policy explains how the ShieldGlow Android TV application accesses, processes, stores and transmits information.

ShieldGlow is provided by:

AIGENUITY LTD
Company number: 16506716
Registered office: 14 Museum Place, 4th Floor, Cardiff, United Kingdom, CF10 3BH
Email: aigenuityltduk@gmail.com

AIGENUITY LTD is the data controller for personal data that it receives in connection with ShieldGlow, such as information contained in customer-support enquiries.

2. What ShieldGlow does

ShieldGlow is an Android TV application that creates screen-reactive ambient lighting using a WLED-compatible lighting device and an addressable LED strip.

ShieldGlow analyses colours displayed near the edges of the television screen and sends calculated lighting instructions to the WLED device configured by the user.

ShieldGlow is designed to operate locally between the Android TV device and the WLED device on the same local network.

3. Screen-capture processing

ShieldGlow uses Android’s screen-capture functionality after the user grants permission through the Android system prompt.

Screen capture is used to:

  • analyse colours near the edges of the displayed image;
  • calculate representative lighting colours; and
  • generate lighting instructions for the configured WLED device.

Screen images are processed temporarily and locally on the Android TV device.

ShieldGlow does not:

  • transmit screen images or video to AIGENUITY LTD;
  • transmit screen images or video to an AIGENUITY LTD server;
  • record or store screen video;
  • upload screenshots;
  • collect audio from viewed content;
  • identify the films, programmes, applications or games being viewed; or
  • use screen content for advertising, profiling or analytics.

Captured frames are used only for the immediate colour calculation and are not retained as a viewing history.

Some protected video services may prevent Android screen capture. This affects whether the lighting feature works with that content, but it does not cause the protected content to be transmitted elsewhere.

4. Local-network communication

ShieldGlow sends calculated colour and lighting-control information to the WLED device selected by the user.

This communication takes place over the user’s local network using WLED-compatible network protocols, including DDP where configured.

The information sent to the WLED device may include:

  • calculated LED colour values;
  • brightness information;
  • LED positions or sequence information;
  • frame or update timing; and
  • basic control instructions.

ShieldGlow does not send screen images, video or audio to the WLED device.

Local WLED communication does not normally pass through servers operated by AIGENUITY LTD.

Some local WLED communication protocols do not provide network-level encryption. Users should operate ShieldGlow and WLED only on a trusted and appropriately secured local network.

5. Information stored locally

ShieldGlow may store the following information locally on the Android TV device:

  • the local IP address or hostname of the configured WLED device;
  • the number and arrangement of LEDs;
  • strip orientation and starting position;
  • brightness and colour settings;
  • smoothing and edge-depth settings;
  • capture-resolution preferences;
  • setup and calibration status; and
  • other application preferences.

This information is used to remember the user’s configuration and operate the lighting system.

AIGENUITY LTD does not receive this locally stored information unless the user deliberately includes it in a technical-support request.

Local settings can be deleted by:

  • resetting ShieldGlow from within the application, where that option is available;
  • clearing ShieldGlow’s application storage through Android settings; or
  • uninstalling ShieldGlow.

6. Accounts

ShieldGlow does not require users to create an account.

AIGENUITY LTD does not maintain a ShieldGlow user-account database.

Because ShieldGlow does not create an online account, there is no separate online ShieldGlow account that needs to be deleted.

7. Analytics, advertising and tracking

ShieldGlow does not contain:

  • advertising SDKs;
  • behavioural advertising;
  • third-party analytics SDKs;
  • third-party tracking pixels;
  • an AIGENUITY LTD usage-analytics service; or
  • an AIGENUITY LTD remote screen-monitoring service.

AIGENUITY LTD does not sell ShieldGlow user data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

If analytics, advertising, cloud accounts, remote access or crash-reporting services are added in a future version, this privacy policy and the Google Play Data Safety declaration will be updated before or when those features are introduced.

8. Diagnostic information

ShieldGlow may generate local technical information needed to operate or troubleshoot the application.

Such information remains on the Android TV device unless the user deliberately sends it to AIGENUITY LTD when requesting support.

Information voluntarily supplied for support may include:

  • the user’s name and email address;
  • the support message;
  • the Android TV device model;
  • Android version;
  • ShieldGlow version;
  • WLED version;
  • application settings;
  • network configuration details;
  • error information; and
  • diagnostic logs or screenshots selected by the user.

Users should remove passwords, access tokens or unrelated personal information before sending diagnostic material.

9. Google Play

ShieldGlow is distributed through Google Play.

Google may independently process information relating to:

  • Google Play accounts;
  • app downloads and installation;
  • purchases and licence verification;
  • device compatibility;
  • app updates;
  • store interactions;
  • security; and
  • platform performance.

Google processes this information under its own terms and privacy policy. AIGENUITY LTD does not control information that Google independently collects through Google Play or the Android operating system.

The presence of Google Play on a device does not mean that ShieldGlow transmits screen content to Google.

10. Support enquiries

When a user contacts AIGENUITY LTD for help, we process the information the user chooses to provide.

We use this information to:

  • respond to the enquiry;
  • diagnose technical problems;
  • provide customer support;
  • identify defects;
  • improve ShieldGlow; and
  • maintain an appropriate record of the support provided.

Our lawful basis is normally:

  • performance of a contract or taking steps requested in connection with a service;
  • our legitimate interests in supporting users and improving ShieldGlow; or
  • compliance with a legal obligation where applicable.

We do not use support information for unrelated advertising.

11. Legal and business records

AIGENUITY LTD may process limited information associated with purchases, refunds, disputes or business records where received from Google Play or directly from the user.

This information may be used to:

  • administer purchases or refunds;
  • respond to payment or licence disputes;
  • comply with accounting and tax obligations;
  • prevent fraud or misuse; and
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

The applicable lawful basis may be performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation or AIGENUITY LTD’s legitimate interests.

12. Sharing of personal data

AIGENUITY LTD does not receive or share screen images, captured video, viewing history or WLED lighting data.

Personal data received through support or business communications may be shared only where reasonably necessary with:

  • email and communication providers;
  • website or cloud-hosting providers;
  • professional advisers;
  • Google or another app-store provider in connection with a purchase, security matter or support request;
  • a purchaser or adviser involved in a proposed sale or restructuring of the business; or
  • courts, regulators, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities where required by law.

Service providers acting on our behalf may use personal data only for the agreed service and must protect it appropriately.

13. International transfers

Some providers used for email, hosting or business administration may process personal data outside the United Kingdom.

Where UK data protection law restricts a transfer, AIGENUITY LTD will use an appropriate mechanism, such as:

  • UK adequacy regulations;
  • the UK International Data Transfer Agreement;
  • the UK Addendum to the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses;
  • another legally recognised safeguard; or
  • a permitted legal exception.

Screen content and locally stored ShieldGlow settings are not transferred internationally by AIGENUITY LTD because AIGENUITY LTD does not receive them.

14. Data retention

AIGENUITY LTD does not retain:

  • screen-capture frames;
  • screen video;
  • audio from displayed content;
  • viewing histories;
  • calculated WLED colour frames;
  • WLED connection details stored in the application; or
  • ShieldGlow settings stored locally on the device.

This information is not stored on AIGENUITY LTD servers.

Support enquiries and voluntarily supplied diagnostic information are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • resolve the support request;
  • understand recurring technical issues;
  • maintain appropriate business records; and
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Financial, purchase and legal records may be retained for the period required by applicable law.

Information that has been irreversibly anonymised may be retained for statistical or product-improvement purposes because it no longer identifies an individual.

15. User choices and deletion

Users control whether to grant Android screen-capture permission.

Screen capture can be stopped by:

  • stopping ShieldGlow’s active capture session;
  • closing or disabling the relevant feature;
  • force-stopping the application; or
  • uninstalling ShieldGlow.

Locally stored settings can be removed by clearing the application’s storage or uninstalling the application.

To request deletion of information previously sent to AIGENUITY LTD through a support enquiry, contact aigenuityltduk@gmail.com.

Deletion requests may be subject to information that AIGENUITY LTD must retain for legal, accounting, security or legal-claims purposes.

16. User rights

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, users may have the right to:

  • request access to personal data held by AIGENUITY LTD;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion;
  • request restriction of processing;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
  • complain to a data protection supervisory authority.

These rights apply to personal data received and held by AIGENUITY LTD. AIGENUITY LTD cannot provide a copy of locally stored ShieldGlow settings or captured frames that it has never received.

Requests may be sent to aigenuityltduk@gmail.com. We may need to verify the requester’s identity before acting.

17. Complaints

Please contact AIGENUITY LTD first if you have concerns about how your information has been handled.

Users also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the United Kingdom’s data protection supervisory authority.

Users outside the United Kingdom may also be entitled to contact the relevant authority in their country.

18. Children

ShieldGlow is not designed specifically for children and does not require an account or profile.

AIGENUITY LTD does not knowingly collect personal data from children through ShieldGlow.

If a parent or guardian believes that a child has sent personal information to AIGENUITY LTD through a support request, they may contact aigenuityltduk@gmail.com to request its deletion.

19. Security

AIGENUITY LTD uses appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data that it receives.

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of:

  • their Android TV device;
  • their local network;
  • the WLED device;
  • WLED access credentials, where configured; and
  • other devices connected to the same network.

No storage or network system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

20. Personal-data breaches

If AIGENUITY LTD experiences a personal-data breach involving information that it holds, it will assess the risk and notify the relevant supervisory authority and affected individuals where required by applicable law.

Because screen content and ShieldGlow configuration remain local, AIGENUITY LTD cannot notify users of incidents occurring solely within a user’s own device, WLED device or local network unless it becomes aware of and is responsible for the incident.

21. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when ShieldGlow’s features, data practices, service providers or legal obligations change.

The updated policy will be published with a revised effective date.

Material changes affecting how ShieldGlow accesses or handles personal data will also be communicated through an appropriate method, such as the application, Google Play listing or website.
